The Category Manager is responsible for the assigned merchandise categories and will be responsible for product acquisition while attaining budgeted sales, gross margin, inventory levels, service levels, P&L, and ROCC. This position will report directly to the Director of Merchandising.
Ideal candidates will be innovative, self-motivated, experienced professionals who possess the following qualifications and experience:
Four year degree in Business, Business Administration, Finance or similar field
Advanced degree preferred
APICS, CPM or other industry related certification desirable
2 – 3 years of prior purchasing, planning, forecasting or analytical experience preferably in a product based wholesale distribution environment
Effective negotiation, organization, prioritization and problem-solving skills; outstanding business acumen, initiative and presentation skills
Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret and make recommendation based on data
Ability to communicate information both verbally and in written form to external and internal customers
Excellent PC skills, including a proficiency in Microsoft Excel; working knowledge industry software programs such as E3, AS400, etc.
Possession of strong customer service and vendor relation orientation
Ability to travel nationwide to vendors, customers, industry trade shows and events up to 10% of time.
